After the outbreak of Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza in October 2023, now in Indonesia, there are widespread boycotts of products that are considered to support or have links to Israel.

In research conducted by Compas.co.id on e-commerce using the crawling method from 8–21 November 2023, 96 brands were included in the boycotted list.

From the results of this research, Compas. co. found that the number of transactions in the food category beverages decreased by 12 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

It also happened in the health category, which experienced a decrease in the number of transactions by 15 percent, and the most affected was the mother and baby category, which experienced a decrease in the number of transactions by 16 percent.

Compas.co.id researched 96 multinational FMCG brands and found that 60 brands, or 62 percent of them, experienced a decrease in the number of transactions reaching 240 thousand.

CEO of Compas.co.id. Hanindia Narendrata (Drata) said that 36 brands, or 38 percent, had positive performance in the number of transactions. The beauty care category experienced an increase in the number of transactions by 7 percent compared to the period before the boycott.

Drata continued that the increase in the number of transactions occurred in the Beauty Care category, with 159 thousand transactions. Data shows that this boycott action has no impact on this category.

still growth

He emphasized that this data proves that Care and Beauty’s products are not too affected by the boycott action in Indonesia, in contrast to other FMCG categories.

This boycott contributed to a decrease in the number of transactions in the mother and baby category by 27.7 thousand, while in the health category, there was a decrease in the number of transactions by 46 thousand. In the food and beverage category, transactions decreased by 46 thousand.

“Based on the data we released, this boycott movement has influenced product selection references, especially for brands considered by the public to support or have ties to Israel. “Compas.co.id will continue to monitor this situation and provide the latest information through our official account,” concluded Drata.
